A royal honour, in service of Oguaaman

The Osabarimba Royal Awards were instituted in honour of the Paramount Chief of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarimba (Dr) Kwesi Atta II, by the Oguaa Traditional Council, and organised by Nana Obiri Aduama, Nkosohene of the Oguaa Traditional Area, and his team. Since the maiden edition in January 2021, the awards have been held annually to reward and appreciate individuals, groups and organisations who contribute to the growth and development of the Cape Coast Traditional Area.

The ceremony brings together chiefs, government officials, business leaders, educators, community organisations and members of the public in a shared act of recognition. It has become, in the truest sense of the word, a community institution — a tradition that is already beginning to carry the weight of history.

Explaining the essence of the scheme, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II has said it is expedient for the Traditional Council to recognise the hard work of individuals in the region to motivate them to do more — for so long as individuals or organisations work hard in their own way to benefit the metropolis, the Traditional Council will appreciate their works from time to time.

Our purpose

Cape Coast — Oguaa — is a city of firsts: the cradle of formal education in Ghana, a seat of history, culture and learning. The awards exist to place the Traditional Council's highest public recognition on the shoulders of those who keep that legacy alive: the educators, health workers, business people, media voices, cultural custodians, religious leaders and everyday citizens whose service uplifts Oguaaman.

Who is eligible

The awards are open to individuals and institutions who are indigenes of the Oguaa Traditional Area, or who live and work in Cape Coast. Honourees span every sector of community life — from paramount institutions and professional bodies to market queens, caretakers and rising entrepreneurs.

The growth of the awards has been made possible in no small part by the generous support of individuals and organisations who have chosen to align themselves with its mission.
